It Has Been a Long Time…

Merry meet everyone,

I hope you didn’t think that I forgot all about my blog. The thing is that I was pretty busy with my school work lately (i.e. all since the New Year) and I didn’t have any ideas what to write about; or at least about something that would be actually interesting to read. Anyways, a lot happened since I’ve last written something. At least when it comes to my life regarding Wicca and my Path.
i. 15/1/2013 — I’ve bought my first Tarot Deck! This is the “background” story how I actually bought it: My way home from school goes through the centre of the Old Town. There are about three bookstores and a tonne of other stores there. Anyway, when I go home with my friends we also stop in some of those places. One day, we all needed a book for school, and we decided we’ll get that book when we go home (we needed the book the next day, or at least think so, so it was easier to just get it then, sorry, I’m rambling :-) ). The point is, I noticed that they have Tarot in that bookstore, and I decided I’ll go and buy it the next day. I’m in the broom closet, and, you know, I didn’t want to be, not teased, just to be “odd” in front of my friends (they find everything Occult odd, and strange), I could say. The next day I went to that bookstore alone, and I bought the Deck. It was €19,50. It is called Universal Tarot and it has motives from the most common A. E. Waite Tarot Deck. This Deck (the one I have) was actually drawn by an Italian artist Roberto De Angelis, who a bit altered the original motives to make them more suitable for the modern-day living. Or at least that’s what the booklet which came with the Deck says. I really love the Cards and I can’t wait to use them frequently. I plan to take some photos and show them to you guys.
ii. 13/1/2013 — I’ve cast my first Circle! Yes; and I’m very happy I did. Although, I’m missing a lot of tools, I think is was good for the first time. I just had to improvise.
iii. 27/1/2013 — I’ve joined The Magical Circle School. This is a completely free (really free) online school that teaches about Wicca. First you have to do the “Entrance Exam” which is maybe a bit annoying (no offence if a teacher from the school is reading this :-) ), but then you have hundreds of different classes you can join — from the basics of Wicca, to Divination, Herbalism, and a lot more. Go and visit their website.
iv. 14/2/2013 (that’s today!) — I’ve got my “Athamé”! The reason why the word Athamé is between quotation marks is, because it isn’t a real Athamé. I mean, it is a tool I’ll use as my Athamé, but it’s actually an envelope opener that’s really nice, and definitely looks like an Athamé; it just doesn’t have a black handle, but that can be fixed soon. I’ll probably show you the photos of that too, together with my new Tarot Deck, soon in the future.

I hope that this post wasn’t too boring. :-) I would also have a question for my readers. I’m planning to make a Wand made out of vinewood. I realised that Hermione from Harry Potter had a vinewood Wand, when searching for information on the internet, but that’s not a reason why I want to use vinewood. My grandmother has a vineyard and she once chopped off a part of the vine that was beginning to dry and I took a thick branch that she planned to add to the compost pile near her garden. And now I plan to make a Wand using that branch. If anyone knows the properties of vinewood, and if it is even suitable for a Wand, please let me know in a comment or just send me an email (it’s in the About section of my blog.) Thanks!

I almost forgot. Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone! :-) Blessed be.

Candle Magic: To Attract Good Luck

Merry meet!

I decided I’ll share this Candle Magic “recipe”, I could say, with you to draw luck that I actually made myself. Candle Magic is one of the easiest ways to perform Magic, because all you need is a candle, and sometimes oil. You just have to put the right correspondences together, and as soon as you light the candle, the Magic starts to work.

To Attract Good Luck

Items needed:
♦ a green candle
♦ chamomile oil (or any other oil that draws luck)
Carve the Rune Algiz (Elhaz) ᛉ onto the green candle and anoint the candle with the chamomile oil. When lightning the candle, visualise the good luck coming into your life.
The best time to do this is on the Full Moon’s night or on a Thursday.

I think that everyone needs some luck sometimes, so I hope that this Candle Magic recipe will come in useful.

Blessed be,
Midnight Wiccan.

December Full Moon: “Old Moon” (28 Dec. 2012)

Merry meet!

Yesterday we had our last Full Moon in 2012. Fortunately for me, the night sky was completely clear and cloudless here, in my town, so I was able to charge my crystals on my window ledge. I’ve put the black bag (it is more like a pouch, actually) with the crystals and a Quartz Pendulum on my window ledge, because I didn’t want for my parents to see the crystals. I know that the crystals should be exposed directly to the moonlight, but didn’t want to risk exposure. At least the pouch was black, and black is the colour that absorbs energy, so I think that the crystals were at least a bit charged and cleansed of the negative energy.

I don’t follow a particular Wiccan Tradition, so I have alternative names for some of the terms and things that may have a name, as I sometimes don’t really feel the connection with those names, I simply change them. Although, the Long Nights Moon makes sense (long nights and shorts days in December) I prefer to call the December Full Moon the “Old Moon”. That’s because the current year is saying goodbye to us (it is “old”, and coming to an end) and the December Full Moon is the last in the year (except in some cases, when there is a Blue Moon in December, like in 2009) so I prefer to call it the Old Moon. I will even maybe do a post about traditional names and compare them to my alternatives (although quite a lot of them are the same).

Blessed be,
Midnight Wiccan.

Wiccan, Witch, Warlock… What’s the Difference Between Those Terms, Anyway?

When you first begin to study Wicca, or just begin to search for information about it, there’s a tonne of new terms you come across. But what do they really mean? In this post, I’ll explain you the meaning, or at least what is my personal belief about their meaning.

A Wiccan is a follower of the Wiccan religion. The main difference between Witchcraft and Wicca is that Wicca is a religion, while Witchcraft isn’t. If you’re a Wiccan, you worship a Deity. But I’ve come across Witches (and I’m actually one of those Witches), when watching videos on YouTube or just reading, who worship a Deity as well and celebrate the Sabbats, so I could say that the line between a Wiccan and a Witch is very, very thin.

A Witch is a person practicing Witchcraft. Like mentioned already above, some believe in a Deity (or even have their own Pantheon of Deities), which somehow makes them actually more of a Wiccan like a Witch, while others don’t. Because of this facts, the words “Witch” and “Wiccan” are often used interchangeably — they have a same meaning.

In modern Wicca and Witchcraft, the word Warlock isn’t really used anymore. Warlock is the male form of the word “Witch”, but is now rarely in use, because Warlocks are supposed to be evil. If you’re familiar with the TV show “Charmed”, you could notice that males are called Witches, too. Warlocks were always the bad guys and even evil female Witches were referred to as Warlocks.

So, if you’re wondering what I am (or at least what do I identify myself as), the answer is: a Witch. When I started to learn about Witchcraft (and Wicca), I soon realised that males are called Witches too. At first this seemed kinda odd, but now, I sometimes (but really rarely) refer to myself as a “Male Witch”. I know, it sounds silly, but that’s who I am.

And also something I’ve to acquaint you with. I know that words “Witch”, “Warlock” and some others shouldn’t be capitalised. The thing is that if I capitalise “Wiccan”, I feel that I should capitalise “Witch” also. On this blog, you’ll see this capitalisation “mistakes” all the time. You’ll see words like “Spell”, “Witchcraft”, “Book of Shadows”, “Magic”, ”Full Moon” and a tonne of others capitalised. Know, that I’m pretty familiar with the English Grammar, and that I’m not a German (they capitalise all nouns), but I feel that capitalising those words is somehow right (at least in this concept — a Wiccan blog), so just accept it as my writing style.

Blessed be,
Midnight Wiccan.

Something ’Bout Me

Merry meet everyone!

I think that it’s only right to introduce myself, because everyone should know at least something about the person, whose blog they are reading. (I will probably create a page titled “About Me”, where I’ll add additional info as the time passes.) So, I am a Wiccan (obviously), born in 1995 and in his 3rd year of highschool, a.k.a. Junior in the u.s. I’d rather not reveal my true name, because I am still “in the broom closet”, as we like to put it, and being exposed wouldn’t be the best thing that could happen to me right now, so I will just stick with the name “Midnight Wiccan” for now. I have been researching and learning about Wicca and Witchcraft for something more than a year now, and I have to admit that I’m more a “studier” like a practitioner. I know a lot about both, Wicca and Witchcraft, but I’m not really in a position to practice and incorporate them into my everyday life as much I’d love to. If I’d have to say which Path do I follow, I’d say that I’m an Eclectic Wiccan following my own Tradition (although I prefer to call myself a Witch). I’m about to start my first Book of Shadows, although it is true that I’ve bought the Book itself quite a long time ago, I just couldn’t find the right time to start writing in it. I have a lots of sticky notes all over my desk and documents on my laptop with information regarding various Magical and other texts that I’ve prepared for writing into my Book of Shadows, but I’m still searching for more. I’m also creating this blog for another purpose — to meet other Wiccans and Witches out there. If you’re reading this post, please comment or at least like it, so I can go over to your blog and see what it’s all about. When reading my blog, you’ll probably not agree with some things that I said. I don’t mind you sharing your different belief in a comment, as long as you’re not being mean or disrespectful; I accept constructive critique.

Blessed be,
Midnight Wiccan.
